Cargill has opened its flavor manufacturing plant in Pinghu, China. This facility complements Cargill’s flavor application laboratory in Shanghai which has been in operation since 2007. The new facility will enable Cargill to serve its local customers with comprehensive solutions ranging from flavor creation and beverage, dairy, confectionery and bakery application, to manufacturing and supply.
“This investment demonstrates our commitment to customers here in China”, said Peter Michielsen, head of Cargill Flavor Systems. “Cargill’s global expertise in the flavor business will add value to customers in a number of ways. Our flavor business has a strong competitive advantage. It can – and does – draw upon the extensive knowledge we have built up across our food ingredients portfolio that also includes juice, starches and sweeteners, edible oils, texturizers, malt, cocoa and chocolate. This will enable us to provide original and often unique taste solutions to our customers. “
The new plant has been built on the same site as Cargill’s existing starches and sweeteners plant, enabling customers to benefit from synergies in development and production and to make maximum use of Cargill’s wide-ranging expertise.
Cargill’s Chinese manufacturing plant, together with its manufacturing facility in Bangalore (India), plus application centers in Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Bangalore, form the base from which to serve the growing Asian market. Cargill already has a flavor operating footprint in the other continents and this latest move enables the company to be a worldwide partner for its customers.
In the intensely competitive world of food and beverage, this new plant will greatly improve the efficiency of the supply chain making Cargill very attractive to manufacturers in China. It is critical to serve the customer with products of high quality and safety. With over 1000 facilities around the world, the company also has extensive experience in food safety management. “Cargill is committed to bringing this global expertise to our flavor business in China in order to offer safe, quality-assured products to our customers,” said Simon George, general manager of Cargill Flavor Systems in Asia.
Andrew Tan, general manager for Cargill Flavor Systems China, believes that “the new plant will redefine the business model and will make Cargill Flavor Systems a competitive flavor player on the Chinese market.”
