Dear colleagues,
One years ago, this date, May 12th, was seared into our memory. On that day, the devastating Sichuan earthquake killed over 68,000 people, including many young lives.
Disaster left us deep sorrow and unforgettable memory, it also stimulated courage and solidarity and reminded us to honor, to cherish and to give.
We witnessed the courage of Sichuan people to face the strike. We witnessed the giving and devotion of selfless people to help the hit. We witnessed solidarity of the Chinese people to fight against the disaster. Not only witness, we were simply part of that.
I can recall right after the earthquake, many of you quickly responded to the disaster relief call by donating or volunteering. With all contributions from you, colleagues around the world and the company, we collected RMB 7.3 million relief funds within two weeks. And our support to long term reconstruction efforts continued.
Cargill volunteers from around China gathered in Sichuan in September last year to work with local children in mobile kindergarten for physiological rebuilding. The second volunteer trip is scheduled end of this Month. The Cargill support rehabilitation programs is still on-going. Enclosed you will find a report on what we did as disaster relief efforts.
A lot has happened over the past year, for some, however, it has not. Let’s remember the victims of this horrible disaster, and the many courageous people who did what they could to help, as we continue our efforts to help the needy and contribute to our communities to bring our commitment into alive.
