Chongqing - Cargill’s Agribrands Purina (Chongqing) Feed Co., Ltd. held a grand opening ceremony today in Chongqing, Rongchang county, for its newest feed mill. The new plant represents a total investment of more than RMB 40 million. It is the second wholly owned feed mill that Cargill has built in western China.

Cargill’s Purina Chongqing plant took one year to construct. The trial production and operation was undertaken in October 2007. The annual capacity of the new plant is 72,000 tons. The new facility will produce both compound and concentrated feed, and serve feeders and breeders of swine, dairy, poultry and aqua in Chongqing, eastern Sichuan province and Guizhou province.

Mr. David Kim, North Asia area supervisor and Cargill Animal Nutrition (CAN) vice president, said, “This is another big step for our business expansion in the western region of China since the opening of our first Chengdu operation. The CAN-China business started 16 years ago and we are now operating 15 plants in China.

“We see our mission as to help livestock farmers be more successful. We regularly share our best technology with local farmers. We have arranged many feeder group meetings during the last 10 years. In total, Cargill has trained over two million livestock farmers in China.”

“I am very proud that this plant was built without any safety issues during the construction period and very harmoniously with Rongchang county,” added Dr. Bokyeun Lee, general manager of Agribrands Purina (Chongqing) Feed Co. Ltd, and West region. “It will be a center to bring together world-class technologies, high-quality products and advanced services. It will also be a center to bring Cargill’s citizenship concept into the local community.”
